Deaf or HOH CI user should NEVER interpret in any setting. They have hearing loss and they will never be able to comprehend clear spoken words.
HOwever, they can become Deaf Interpreter working with license and certified hearing interpreter.
FYI: Deaf and HOH could only comprehend 27% from lipreading and play guessing game the rest of 73%.

I can only hope that this CI person would be honest enough with himself or herself for the sake of interpreting profession.

I am Mom to a 16 month old deaf child with one CI. She'll be receiving her second CI in Nov or Dec of this year.
Are you saying that my daughter will never be able to comprehend clear spoken words? She already does. She speaks quite clearly and understands A LOT of what is spoken to her. She actually has no language delays and is on target, in every sense, with her hearing peers.
Should my daughter be discouraged, as a deaf person, from a profession in interpretation? What if she decided one day that her calling was to help others in her community by interpreting for them? If she were capable and fluent in ASL, why not?
